I always love to eat Tahong (mussels) because they are healthy and delicious. Aside from that, mussels are good for the health because they are excellent sources of Selenium, Vitamin B12, Zinc, and Folate.

One of my favorite dishes includes the Ginisang Tahong or sautéed mussels and a popular Filipino dish because of its flavorful soup.

The taste of the soup becomes even perfect with the inclusion of ginger and tomatoes. This delicious seafood recipe is simple, tasteful, and easy to prepare.

Here is the procedure for Ginisang Tahong or Sautéed Mussels

Ingredients:

  • 1 kilo Fresh Tahong (mussels) (washed and cleaned properly)
  • 3  Pieces Ripe Tomatoes (washed and sliced for the dish)
  • 1 large Onion (peeled and chopped finely)
  • 3 Cloves of Garlic ( peeled and minced)
  • 1 thumb-sized Ginger (peeled and julienned)
  • Vegetable Cooking Oil
  • 2 Bunches of petchay (chopped but optional)
  • 1 Cup of Water
  • Salt to taste

Procedure:

In a large preheated casserole, put a small amount of vegetable cooking oil, sauté the ginger, garlic, onion, and tomatoes, until the mixture becomes soft and mushy. Add the Tahong (mussels) and then continue sautéing until it renders out the liquid and the shells begin to open.

Continue the process of simmering until the liquid comes out properly for about 2-3 minutes. Next is to add some water if you want to improve the soup. Add the petchay and let simmer until the vegetables become tender. Finally, add the right amount of salt to complete taste.

When ready to serve, transfer the dish to a soup bowl and then prepare the plain rice!
